At noon today, the governor held a press conference announcing stricter regional stay-at-home orders that will be triggered if intensive care unit capacity in a region falls below 15%. He divided the state into five regions, one of which is northern California. They're saying our region is going to have less than 15% ICU capacity within just a few days.
It is not the interest of the state to impact what is already going on with schools, and our capitol watchers are confirming that schools can continue to do what we're already doing. They are working on getting this all in writing.
MSUSD will be able to continue to operate our modified learning hub model that we are currently running, so today's announcement doesn't change anything for us, even as our region is moving into having less than 15% ICU capacity.
Please reach out to your school's principal or your student's teacher if you have any questions, and continue to abide by best practices to keep you and your loved ones safe during this time.

This morning we confirmed there has been a positive COVID test of a member of our school community. School Nurse Patty reports that it has been determined that there was no close contact between this person and the school staff, students, or families.
Please remember to continue to monitor yourself and your family for symptoms and take precautions like wearing a mask, washing your hands frequently, and maintaining a physical distance from those outside your household.

The district will follow state guidelines for schools within counties that are in the purple category by bringing limited voluntary in-person learning hubs back beginning on Monday, November 30. Currently we will target special education students, Title I students, English learners, and Sisson Bridges students for possible in-person learning opportunities. Specialist teachers will make contact with families of these students to discuss scheduling and next steps.

This message is an update about when we will revisit returning to our hybrid learning model. Today, the state moved Siskiyou County into the most restrictive purple (or widespread) COVID tier. As a result, we must continue with the distance-learning-only model into December, and the board will revisit our reopening status at its board meeting on Monday, December 14. We continue to encourage those in our community to practice physical distancing, limit travel where possible, wash hands frequently, and wear masks when around people not in your household.

This message is announcing school lunches available over the upcoming break. On Monday, November 23, families will be able to pick up three school lunches for each of their students at no charge. Lunches will be available that day from 12:30 to 1:00. You must call by Thursday or Friday of this week to let your school's office staff know that you will pick up the three lunches on Monday, November 23.

In response to a positive COVID-19 test at the Boys & Girls Club and with the safety of our students and staff in mind, we are sad to have to announce we are moving to distance learning again.
This has been a difficult decision that is based on the rise in new COVID-19 cases in Siskiyou County over the last ten days. As of today, Monday Nov. 9th, we have 314 confirmed cases, 51 of which are active. Shasta County to the south of us and Jackson County to the north of us have had even greater spikes in new cases. To help prevent a similar large spike in cases in our community, we are closing both of our campuses to in-person learning through the end of Thanksgiving vacation (November 27).
All students will participate in daily live interaction with their teachers in full distance learning mode. Your child’s teacher will contact you with specific details about what to expect for the next two weeks before Thanksgiving vacation.
We remain committed to the health and safety of our students, staff, and all their families.

We are announcing a common K-8 hybrid schedule that will take effect on October 12 that allows distance learning students to stay with their current teachers. We will NOT be running a K-5 am/pm schedule as previously announced. Teachers will be reaching out to all families in the coming days with more information and to ask questions to help them finalize their plans. School principals will post school-specific schedules and plans shortly. We appreciate all of the feedback we have received, and we encourage you to stay engaged with us as we partner with you to educate our students. On Monday, County Public Health Officer Dr. Stutz released revised orders for reopening of schools. The only significant addition is under the "Symptoms" heading. Here is a link to the order: https://5il.co/lniq
